Moody Optical
Established by O. Glenn Moody, our shop began in the Framingham co-op plaza in 1967. Since then, our team has been committed to bringing the very best in vision services to families throughout the Metrowest area. Following his death in 1984, his daughter, Sonda, has continued the legacy of her father’s dedication to quality and service.
Sonda Moody-McCarthy is the owner of Moody Optical, has been a licensed optician in Massachusetts since 1978, and has also been American Board certified since 1980. Sonda received her degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute and was the recipient of the Richard Degraff Award for excellence in Optical Lab. Sonda began working with her father, O. Glenn Moody, while in optical school. Working with him was never boring. After graduating and passing the state boards, Sonda remembers her father telling her, “Now I’ll show you how it’s really done.” Glenn was a craftsman in the optical industry and spent the next few years sharing that craft with her. When asked what is her favorite part of being an optician and working at Moody Optical, her answer is, “Everything! This has never been just a job for me. I consider it a privilege to do something I love every day!”
Timothy McCarthy got his start in the optical industry working for a contact lens manufacturing company in Boston. After working there for a number of years, he decided to go back to school and become a licensed optician. Tim graduated with honors and received his degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing from Worcester Technical Institute in 1992. Tim is a licensed optician in Massachusetts and is American Board certified and National Contact Lens Society certified. Tim loves helping our customers with their visual needs. Customers comment all the time about how patient he is in helping them in the frame selection process, that can sometimes be overwhelming.
Mary Ann Baril is our part-time office assistant. When she's not trying all of our new frame arrivals, she helps us with many of our office needs, including: our correspondence, newsletters, and maintaining our database. She has a very creative side, and she is very artistic; she uses those talents to create our displays. She also loves photography and does the photos for our website and other publications. Mary Ann also assists the optometrist in signing in the patients and organizing their insurance information.
